I’m Sarah Kane, a photographer based in the greater Richmond, Virginia area, and I’m thrilled to share my latest senior portrait session. Specializing in the fusion of natural and artificial light, I strive to create stunning images that shine bright, no matter the weather. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a talented young artist for her senior portraits, and we chose the perfect backdrop: Belle Isle.

As an artist, she needed a location that matched her eclectic style, and Belle Isle fit the bill perfectly. This unique spot in Richmond boasts a stunning mix of nature and history, featuring old structures intertwined with lush greenery, tall grasses swaying in the breeze, and the breathtaking rocks along the James River.

Embracing Natural and Artificial Light

I love working with natural light. I also love studio lighting which gives me complete control to create perfect light. By harnessing the beauty of natural light, I capture the soft, flattering tones that bring out the subject's essence. Meanwhile, I use off-camera lighting which allows me to add depth and dimension, enhancing details and creating a captivating balance in every shot. This combination ensures that regardless of the weather or time of day, I can craft the perfect portrait that truly reflects the uniqueness of each individual.

As we wandered through Belle Isle, we took advantage of its diverse landscapes. From the rugged rocks along the riverbank to the overgrown paths, each location provided a unique backdrop that complemented her artistic spirit.
