There’s something undeniably special about Belle Isle in Richmond. Tucked between the James River and downtown’s urban skyline, it offers the perfect balance of natural beauty and rustic charm. When this beautiful family chose it as the backdrop for their maternity session, I knew we were in for something truly meaningful.

We began our session under one of the bridges leading to the island, where golden winter grasses swayed in the breeze and the sunlight danced through the bare branches. Mom wore a mustard yellow dress that practically glowed in the warm light, and the way her little boy ran joyfully ahead captured the energy and excitement of a family on the brink of a new chapter. It was playful, sweet, and full of real, authentic connection.

Next, we explored one of the historic brick ruins nestled along the trails of Belle Isle—an area that feels like it holds a thousand stories. Her deep green gown stood out beautifully against the weathered red brick, and with her hand resting on her baby bump, the moment felt timeless and full of grace. There’s a quiet strength in these shots that I absolutely love.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to the edge of the island overlooking the James River, with the city skyline rising in the distance. The soft ripples of the water and that golden-hour glow were pure magic. Dressed in flowing burgundy, she stood radiant and serene—a mama-to-be completely in her element.

Belle Isle gave us everything: space for fun, textures for elegance, and light for warmth. But more than that, it gave us a place to tell a story—a story of love growing stronger, of a family savoring their last moments as a trio before welcoming someone new.
