/When Should You Schedule a Newborn Photography Session? | Newborn Portraits in Richmond VA
The newborn phase is very brief. In a few short weeks after your baby’s birth he/she will begin to become more alert. They will begin to fill out and just like that they are no longer a newborn. For newborn studio portraits it’s important to photograph newborns within the first 3 weeks of birth. In my years of experience I find the 2nd week to be the sweet spot. In order to pose a newborn they must be sleepy and relaxed and still flexible for posing.
With such a short window for portraits you are probably wondering how you are supposed to schedule a newborn portrait session when it’s impossible to predict when your baby will decide he/she is ready to make their grand entrance into the world. The answer is you won’t actually schedule your session until your baby arrives, but you will want to reserve a spot several months in advance. I reserve a limited number of spots for newborns due each month to ensure that I will have room in my schedule to photograph the baby within the first 2-3 weeks of birth. My schedule often books up 3-4 months in advance, so the sooner you schedule the better! Since births are unpredictable, I often have last minute openings, so if you’ve waited don’t be discouraged to reach out! If I can squeeze you in I will!
