Pregnancy is an experience that you cannot prepare for, you cannot ever explain adequately enough the emotions involved. Your body will go through changes that you didn't think were humanly possible. At times you are the happiest you’ve ever been and other times you are so miserable that you’re not sure how you will tolerate things for a minute longer. For some 9 months can feel like an eternity and others it goes by in an instant. No matter what your pregnancy is like once your baby arrives and the years go by your pregnancy becomes a distant memory. You think to yourself looking at your first born who just turned 11 “was that all just a dream”?

One of my biggest regrets is not hiring someone to take my own maternity portraits. I was still new to photography, but thought I knew enough to take my own portraits. Big mistake. I have very few pictures of either of my 2 pregnancies and if I had a time machine I would go back 11 and 7 years and hire the best photographer I knew. I’ve never heard of anyone regretting having professional portraits taken, only the regrets of those who did not.

I am so fortunate that I have a career that allows me to photograph woman as they become mothers. There is no greater experience she will have in her life. There will be so many firsts once her child arrives, but nothing will even come close to when the mother in her is born.
