Are Family Portraits Safe During COVID-19? Family, Newborn, Maternity Pictures in Richmond VA
/Are Family Portraits Safe During COVID-19?
Spring is the start of portrait season and many of you are wondering is it safe to still have family portraits? I cannot answer this question for you, but I can tell you measures I am taking to keep my clients, myself and my own family safe during this crisis.
First and foremost I must be compliant with the governor’s “stay-at-home” ordinance and guidelines for non-essential businesses. How do I do this?
I have multiple zoom lenses to allow me to keep a safe distance at all times during an outdoor photo session.
I have been posing and photographing families for 10 years and can do it with my eyes closed or from 6 feet away with no contact ;) I do not need to physically touch anyone during portraits. I rarely do for posing typically. Most of my instructions are oral.
I am happy to wear a face mask for extra protection for your family.
What About Newborn Portraits? Are They Safe?
Unfortunately, I am not able to photograph newborns without holding, touching and being in close proximity to them. Newborn posing is very hands on and requires an assistant as well as myself to touch the baby and remain very close. Although I could wear a mask and gloves I am not able to remain compliant with the governor’s ordinance for sleepy newborn studio portraits. What I can do however is an in-home lifestyle session. This does not require any posing or contact with you or the baby. I can remain at a safe distance throughout the session wearing gloves and a face mask. Although you may have your heart set on the posed portraits I am still able to capture the brief newborn phase through lifestyle photos. This is a moment you will never get back!
Are Other Studio Sessions Like Maternity and Milestone Sessions Safe?
Just like outdoor family portraits and in-home lifestyle portraits I am able to have no contact and keep a safe distance during a photoshoot while wearing a protective face mask and gloves. During this time only those included in the photograph are permitted in the studio. If only the baby is being photographed then one parent should attend. This is to limit my exposure to others for your safety and my families.
If you are concerned about being in doors this is the perfect time for outdoor milestone portraits!
